Anonymous counts

When something happens on the page, it adds one to a daily total. Each total is just:

WhatExample
the eventa visit, a sign-up, a button pressed
the day2026-10-09
the countrythe country code Cloudflare reports for the request, like US
where a visit came fromonly on a visit: a tag in the link (like ?ref=share), or just the domain of the site that linked here (like x.com, never the full address), or direct
which pageonly on a visit: the page's address on this site, like /play/
first visit or notonce a day: whether this browser has been here before, as new, returning or unknown

To tell a first visit from a return, the page keeps a random marker and the date of your last visit in your browser's local storage. They never leave your browser: only the words new or returning are counted. Clearing your site data removes them, and if your browser blocks storage the visit is counted as unknown.

A total holds nothing else: no IP address, no browser details, nothing that identifies you. The totals cannot be traced back to a person.

Error reports

If something on a page fails, the page sends us the error message and where in the page's own code it happened, with the page's address on this site, the browser and system family (like Chrome on Windows) and the country. A random number made new on every page load ties one visit's reports together. It is not stored in your browser and is not a cookie.

The installer and the cartridge page at install.shinyrelay.com do their work in your browser: your Chromatic's firmware, your backup, your Wi-Fi settings and your game files are never sent to us. The page sends us which steps started, finished or failed, and the error message when one fails, with no device ids and nothing from your files. It also sends the installer and firmware versions, and on the cartridge page the kind of job (a free game or app, a patch, your own file, a backup or a restore) and its rough size. A report never holds a MAC address, a serial number, a Wi-Fi name or password, a file name, or anything from a file or a backup.

The connection check at install.shinyrelay.com/probe/ only asks your Chromatic for its firmware version and writes nothing to it. When it finishes it sends us its result: whether each way of opening the USB connection got an answer and how long it took, the line signals your computer reported, the firmware version your Chromatic answered with, and your system and browser with their version numbers (like macOS 26.4 and Chrome 155). That tells us which computers need which fix. It holds no device ids and nothing else.

Page view statistics

The site also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views and load times without cookies and without fingerprinting or tracking you across sites.

The updates email (optional)

If you type your email into the sign-up box, we keep the address, the topics you signed up for (news about Shiny Relay) and the time you signed up. Shiny Gen stores it in a database on Cloudflare and uses it only to send those emails. We never sell or share it.

Every email has an unsubscribe link that deletes your address from the list. You can also write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
